Luis Rubén González Márquez is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the University of California, Merced. He earned a B.A. in History from the University of El Salvador and master’s degrees in Sociology from the Latin American Faculty of Social Science in Ecuador and at University of California, Merced. He worked as researcher in the National Teachers Training Institute (INFOD) of El Salvador and Adjunct Professor in the Social Science School of the University of El Salvador. Luis Rubén received a Fulbright-LASPAU scholarship for his graduate studies (in 2019-2021). His research interests are popular mobilization, political violence, labor and environmental inequalities in the Global South. His dissertation examines the escalation of conflicts in extractivism of renewable energies, based in a comparative-historical analysis of hydroelectric dam large projects in Central America.
